Metropolis (89-TILL NOW)
Shuvas expertise in graphics, especially intaglio and lithography that he specialised in during a residency in Germany, has left deep impressions on his art across genres. The skill and technique of printmaking has been effectively included in his style of painting that runs along analogous themes and routes ranging across his work in the Metropolis, Crows, Time, Still Life and Icon series. The artist thinks of themes, materials and colours before starting to draw, first in his sketch-book and only then on paper or canvas. As he begins to plan, draw and paint the layout, the images start to surface. Covering the canvas with liquid colour, he pastes on it a sheet of semi-transparent rice paper with glue to get the desired texture and frisson.
